Philadelphia Phillies unveil City Connect uniforms
The Philadelphia Phillies are the first team to unveil their City Connect uniforms in 2024, and twenty-first overall, as they revealed their design at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3.
For the past three seasons, Major League Baseball has gifted six to seven teams each year with a City Connect jersey, a uniform that pays homage to the city the team plays in. This year, nine different teams, including the Phillies, will get one, meaning twenty-eight different teams will have a City Connect uniform after the season.
The eight other teams set to join the Phillies with City Connect uniforms this year are the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Guardians, Tampa Bay Rays, and Detroit Tigers. The only two teams without one will be the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics.
The Phillies adopted the slogan “unapologetically Philly” with their City Connect uniform. The slogan is meant to show that Philadelphia is a big city with a small-town feel, and a city unlike any other. That is exemplified on the jersey with the word mark “Philly” on the front.
The colors on the jersey are navy blue, light blue, and yellow, paying homage to the flag of Philadelphia. On the sleeve of the jersey, there is a circular logo saying the word “LOVE,” with the O being a bell. That portion of the jersey is another reminder to fans that Philadelphia is the “city of brotherly love,” with the bell symbol being identical to the city’s Liberty Bell.
The logo on the hat and helmet is the same Liberty Bell themed logo that you see on the sleeve, as well as the team’s primary logo.
The Phillies will wear their City Connect uniforms during Friday home games, starting next Friday, April 12, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team will be using the slogan “Lights Up” for those games, as they wear the uniforms in front of their home crowd and under the lights of Citizens Bank Park.
